Latency
Why is my ping high in online games?
Gaming depends on stable latency and low packet loss, not only download bandwidth. Wi-Fi retransmissions, loaded links and long provider routes can all increase delay.
What this symptom actually means
A speed test may look fast while latency spikes under upload or download load. The game server location and route also matter, so one target cannot describe every destination.
What to check
- Compare Ethernet with Wi-Fi using the same PC and game region.
- Measure idle latency and loaded latency while another device uploads or downloads.
- Pause cloud synchronization, console updates, cameras and peer-to-peer traffic during one controlled test.
- Check packet loss and jitter over time instead of relying on one ping value.
- Compare several destinations; a problem limited to one game region may be outside the home network.
How Infrazoom can help
The Windows app provides progressive trace, sustained connection-quality testing and loaded-latency evidence. Android + Appliance adds local VoIP-readiness measurements of loss, RTT, jitter and estimated MOS on the phone-to-site path.
When to escalate
Fix the local radio or loaded-link problem when Ethernet is stable and Wi-Fi is not. Give the provider timestamps, wired results and path evidence when both connection types degrade beyond the gateway.
Infracheck provides diagnostic evidence and guidance. It cannot identify the owner of a nearby network, access your router administration account, or guarantee the cause of an intermittent provider fault from one scan.
