Fault isolation

Why does the internet work by cable but not over Wi-Fi?

If Ethernet works reliably through the same router while Wi-Fi does not, the provider connection is less likely to be the first fault.

What this symptom actually means

The comparison is strongest when both tests use the same router and happen close together. It isolates the radio/client side from much of the shared gateway and provider path.

What to check

  1. Forget and rejoin the Wi-Fi network on one affected device, confirming the correct password and SSID.
  2. Test close to the router and compare 2.4 GHz with 5 GHz.
  3. Check whether all wireless devices fail or only one operating system or adapter.
  4. Restart the Wi-Fi function or access point once for diagnosis, but do not accept repeated restarts as a permanent fix.
  5. Review router firmware, security compatibility, DHCP address availability and access-control settings.

How Infrazoom can help

Run Quick Scan on Android or the Windows PC health check. The result can expose Wi-Fi link details while separately verifying gateway, DNS and HTTP reachability.

When to escalate

Replace or reconfigure Wi-Fi equipment only after confirming that Ethernet remains healthy. For one affected device, update or inspect that client's adapter and saved network profile first.

Infracheck provides diagnostic evidence and guidance. It cannot identify the owner of a nearby network, access your router administration account, or guarantee the cause of an intermittent provider fault from one scan.
